Lights, fans and switches

Hung on the box you already have

Most fixtures and ceiling fans go on a ceiling box that is already there. I check that the box is rated to carry the weight, hang what you bought, and test every switch before I leave.

Buy the fixture yourself or ask me to. The labor is the same either way.

  • You choose the fixture, fan or switch

  • A box that cannot carry a fan is replaced, by the hour

  • Cover plates and a short cleanup are included

Who supplies what

What you buy and what I bring

  • You buy

The fixture, the fan, or a smart switch you have chosen. Keep the manual.

  • I bring

Standard outlets, switches, cover plates, wire nuts, and a fan bracket if the fan's own is missing.

  • Billed by the hour

A new box, new wire to the ceiling, or anything behind a finished wall.

Light and fan questions

Can you hang a fan where there is only a light?

Often. The box has to be rated for a fan, and I check it first. If it is not, a rated box is a few extra minutes at the install rate.

Do you install dimmers?

Yes. I match the dimmer to the bulbs, because the wrong pair is the usual cause of flicker and buzz.

Can you add a light where there is none?

That needs new wire, so it is priced by the hour. Tell me the room and what is above it.
